It was born with a clear goal: to be the gateway to the world of SLR photography for beginners and casual users, with a body of just ~449 g (with battery and card) and a "guide mode" that explains the fundamentals on the screen itself while you shoot.
Under its compact shell, it mounts an APS-C CMOS sensor of 24.1 MP and the DIGIC 8 processor, a combination that gives solid image quality, very comparable to other APS-C cameras of its time. It lets you grow: it accepts EF-S and EF lenses, has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, a 3" vari-angle touchscreen, and a good Dual Pixel autofocus in Live View with face and eye detection.

What lenses are compatible with the Canon EOS 250D?
It mounts Canon EF-S mount lenses and also full-frame EF lenses (these apply a crop factor of ~1.6×). It does not support RF or EF-M optics. You can see options in our collection of Canon EF mount lenses. Note that the EF-S catalog is poor in affordable fast lenses: for portrait or low light, it is usually worth looking for an EF or third-party lens.
Is it good for recording 4K video?
It records 4K UHD, but only at 24/25p, with significant crop and without Dual Pixel AF (in 4K, focusing is contrast-based, slower). In practice, it is not a camera designed for serious 4K video. Where it performs very well is in Full HD 1080p up to 60 fps with the excellent Dual Pixel autofocus.
Is it good for someone starting in photography?
Yes, it is one of its great strengths. It is very light and comfortable, and includes a guide mode that explains concepts (aperture, shutter speed, ISO) in real time on the screen. It is an ideal gateway to SLR photography.
How long does the battery last?
It uses the LP-E17 battery, and battery life depends a lot on how you shoot: through the optical viewfinder it reaches about 1070 shots (CIPA), but on screen (Live View) or in video it drops to about 320. Important: it comes with a dedicated external charger and is not designed to charge inside the camera, so make sure you have the charger.
Does it have image stabilization?
It does not have in-body stabilization (IBIS). Stabilization, if any, comes from the lens: look for Canon lenses marked as IS, like the usual EF-S 18-55mm IS STM kit lens. In video, there is limited electronic stabilization that only corrects rotation.
What should I check when buying it second-hand?
Ask for the shutter count, confirm that it includes the charger, check the battery health and that it is genuine, and inspect the sensor and the vari-angle screen mechanism, which is a part that suffers. If it comes with the kit lens, verify that the IS and STM motor work.
Is it the same as the Rebel SL3, Kiss X10, or 200D?
The 250D, the Rebel SL3, and the Kiss X10 are exactly the same model with different names depending on the market. Do not confuse it with the 200D/SL2 (previous, with DIGIC 7 and no 4K) or the SL1/100D.
