What lenses are compatible with the Nikon Z6 II?
It uses Nikon Z mount lenses (Nikkor Z), both full-frame (FX) and APS-C (DX, with crop). With the FTZ or FTZ II adapter, it also mounts Nikon F lenses from DSLRs: most (AF-S and AF-P) retain autofocus, but older screw-drive AF-D lenses do not focus automatically.
Is it suitable for beginners?
It can be used in automatic mode, but it is a full-frame aimed at the advanced enthusiast and professional. Its ergonomics and physical controls help a lot for those who really want to learn; if you are looking for something small and simple to start with, maybe it is more camera than you need. As a step into full-frame, it is a very sensible option.
How is video recording?
It records 4K UHD up to 60p (60p only in 1.5x DX crop; 30p uses the full sensor) and Full HD at 120 fps for slow motion. Internally it records 8-bit: 10-bit N-Log/HLG requires an external recorder via HDMI. The screen is tilting, not articulating, so it is not ideal for self-recording.
How is the battery and battery life?
It uses the EN-EL15c (compatible with EN-EL15b/a, with lower performance). CIPA battery life is modest: about 410 shots with the screen and 340 with the viewfinder, although in real use it usually performs better. It supports charging and power via USB-C, ideal with a power bank. It is recommended to carry a spare battery.
Is it reliable to buy a used Z6 II?
Yes, it is a robust body and the dual slot gives peace of mind for professional work. Verify that it has the updated firmware (4K/60p arrived via free update in 2021, firmware ≥1.10) and ask for the shutter count: its life is around 200,000 actuations, so be careful with heavily used units from weddings or events.
What should I check before buying it?
Check which battery it comes with (ideally the EN-EL15c), that the IBIS works, and that the sensor is clean and without scratches (take a photo of a flat sky at f/16 to detect dust). Confirm if it includes a CFexpress Type B or XQD card, which is expensive and not always included, and if it adds the original FTZ/FTZ II adapter.
What are its real limitations?
The tracking autofocus lags behind Sony and Canon of its generation and requires manually switching modes. 4K/60p is only in 1.5x DX crop, there is no internal 10-bit, the screen is only tilting, and battery life is average. Additionally, the maximum burst of 14 fps requires 12-bit RAW and locks exposure on the first shot.
