What lenses are compatible with the X-T4?
It uses the Fujifilm X mount, so it accepts the entire Fujinon XF/XC APS-C range and third-party optics with X mount (Viltrox, Sigma, Tamron, etc.). You can see the selection in Fujifilm X mount lenses. Medium format GF lenses (G mount) do not fit, and other mounts require a manual adapter, usually without reliable autofocus.
Is it good for video?
Yes, it is one of its great strengths: it records 4K (DCI 4096×2160 and UHD 3840×2160) up to 60p, in 10-bit internally and up to 400 Mbit/s, plus Full HD up to 240 fps for slow motion. Note that it does not have a headphone jack on the body: to monitor audio you need a USB-C to jack adapter or the vertical grip.
How is the battery life?
It uses the NP-W235, larger than the batteries of previous models, with a CIPA autonomy of about 500 shots per charge (compared to ~390 for the X-T3). In real use, especially in economy mode, this figure is often exceeded. It charges via USB-C.
Is it good for beginners?
It is a high-end camera aimed at the advanced enthusiast and semi-professional. A beginner can use it perfectly and grow with it thanks to its automatic modes, but its strength is the physical controls with dedicated dials and the photo+video versatility. If you are looking for something simpler and lighter, there are more basic options; if you want a camera that won't hold you back, it is an excellent choice.
Is it reliable bought second-hand?
Yes. It is a robust body with weather sealing, dual card slots, and a shutter with a nominal durability of 300,000 actuations (double that of the X-T2). It is advisable to verify that it has up-to-date firmware: Fuji released updates (v1.02 and later) that improved IBIS behavior in certain configurations, especially in video. It is not a widespread defect, but rather a matter of keeping the firmware updated.
What should I check when buying it used?
Check the shutter count to assess shutter wear. Test the IBIS and continuous autofocus in various configurations: some users report a slight click from the stabilization mechanism, which in most cases is its normal behavior. Also check the sealing gaskets, the tripod thread, and the condition of the dials, and confirm that the firmware is updated.
What do I gain compared to the X-T3?
The key difference is in-body stabilization (IBIS) up to 6.5 stops, which the X-T3 lacks. You also gain better battery life (about 500 shots CIPA vs. ~390 for the X-T3), a fully articulated screen, and internal 10-bit 4K60 recording. In exchange, the X-T4 is somewhat larger and heavier, the vari-angle screen does not convince everyone for street photography, and it lost the dedicated physical metering selector.
