About this unit

Introduced in November 2022, the Fujifilm X-T5 marks the return of the X-T series to its roots: photography. Compared to the more hybrid X-T4, Fujifilm reoriented this high-end APS-C body towards those who enjoy still photography—portrait, travel, landscape, or street—with classic dedicated dials, a compact and lightweight body (557 g), and weather sealing. They really pleased those who miss cameras of old, with physical controls in sight and a deliberate shooting experience.

Its heart is the 40.2 MP APS-C X-Trans CMOS 5 HR sensor, one of the highest resolution in its category, accompanied by the X-Processor 5. This translates into outstanding detail and the famous Fujifilm film simulations that are so loved directly in JPEG. It adds 5-axis IBIS with up to 7 stops, an OLED viewfinder with good magnification, and a mechanical burst of 15 fps. It is honest to say that it is not a fast-action camera: its tracking AF lags behind Sony or Canon, and the buffer is modest. But for those seeking image quality, classic ergonomics, and a versatile photo body, the X-T5 is one of the most well-rounded APS-C proposals on the market.

· Frequently asked questions ·
What lenses are compatible with the X-T5?

It uses the Fujifilm X mount, so it accepts all native XF optics (high-end, with aperture ring and sealing) and XC (more economical), as well as third-party lenses with licensed AF like Sigma, Tamron, or Viltrox. You can see our catalog of Fujifilm X mount lenses. Note: with 40 MP, the lens matters a lot, and old or very cheap lenses may not resolve the full sensor.

Is it good for video?

Yes, and well: it records 6.2K/30p, DCI 4K HQ up to 60p, and Full HD, with 10-bit internal and 4:2:2 10-bit via HDMI. However, 6.2K applies a ~1.23x crop, there is noticeable rolling shutter, and no fan, so long recordings may hit thermal limits. For intensive video, the X-H2 is a better choice; for photo with occasional video, the X-T5 is more than enough.

Is it good for beginners?

It is a high-end camera aimed more at the advanced enthusiast, but its physical dials make learning the relationship between shutter speed, aperture, and ISO very intuitive. If you start with a desire to grow, it is a purchase that won't hold you back. That said, its autofocus is not as forgiving in fast action as an equivalent Sony or Canon.

What battery does it use and how long does it last?

It uses the NP-W235 (~15.8 Wh), rechargeable via USB-C, the same as the X-T4. According to CIPA, it offers about 580 shots per viewfinder (slightly less in Boost mode): decent, though not a class leader. It is an expensive battery, so when buying second-hand, check its health and carry a spare if shooting all day.

What should I check when buying a used X-T5?

Check that the IBIS doesn't make unusual noises, inspect the sensor for spots or dust (with the mount open), and that both SD slots read and write properly. Ask for the shutter count, which on Fujifilm can be read with external software from a recent RAW. Also confirm the firmware is up to date, as Fujifilm has released AF improvements after launch.

X-T4 or X-T5?

It depends on your use. The X-T4 has a fully articulated screen and optional grip, more oriented to video and vlogging. The X-T5 gains in resolution (40 vs 26 MP), IBIS, and viewfinder, but loses the fully articulated screen (only tilts) and does not support a battery grip. If you prioritize image quality and photo, the X-T5; if you need an articulated screen or vertical grip, consider the X-T4.

Is it reliable to buy used?

Yes. It is a sealed and well-built body with no known chronic weak points. Since it is sealed, check for dents that could compromise weather resistance and inspect the port seals. With a verified shutter count and up-to-date firmware, it is a very safe second-hand purchase.

To complete it, take a look at spare batteries, memory cards, or camera cases.
