Can I change the lens?
No. The X100F has a fixed Fujinon 23mm f/2 lens (35mm equivalent), not interchangeable. It does accept optical converters that screw onto the lens: the WCL-X100 II takes it to a ~28mm wide-angle and the TCL-X100 II to a ~50mm telephoto, but they do not turn it into an interchangeable lens system.
Is it good for video?
In a limited way. It only records Full HD 1080p up to 60p and does not offer 4K. It also has no image stabilization (neither IBIS nor optical), so handheld video can be shaky. It is a camera designed for photography; for video, consider other models.
What battery does it use and how long does it last?
It uses the Fujifilm NP-W126S (Li-Ion, 7.2V, 1260mAh), a standard brand battery that is easy to replace. The official CIPA rating is about 390 shots per charge using the optical viewfinder; with the electronic viewfinder or in cold weather, it drops noticeably. For a day of shooting, it is advisable to carry a second battery.
Is it good for starting in photography?
It can be if you are attracted to learning with manual controls: the physical shutter speed dial and aperture ring teach a lot. That said, it is a camera with a single fixed focal length (35mm equivalent) and no zoom, so it forces you to move. If you seek total versatility or fully automatic operation, consider whether that limitation fits you.
What should I check when buying it second-hand?
The most important thing is the aperture: shoot at f/2, f/5.6, and f/16 and check that exposure changes correctly and that you can hear/see the aperture blades actuate (sticky blades are the series' historical issue). Also check that it charges via USB, that connector covers close properly, that the ring and dials click firmly, and ask about the shutter count.
Why does it look soft at f/2 up close? Is it broken?
It is usually normal. The 23mm f/2 uses a 2011 optical design that loses sharpness at close distances and wide open, and it can show some flare with bright lights near the corners. Stopping down to f/4-f/5.6 improves it a lot. It is not a defect of the unit; to rule out a real decentering, test at medium distance and with the aperture stopped down.
Can it handle rain?
It is not advisable to risk it. The X100F has no weather sealing against dust or water, and there are reports of condensation or fogging of the viewfinder with prolonged rain. Later models (X100V/VI) improved this with partial sealing. With this one, use protection if the weather turns bad.
